Hey guys, just bought a 2001 convt. and the DIC doesn't light up. Where is the best place to bring it, send it to be repaired and what kind of $$$$$ am I looking at? I'm in Springfield MA. Been on the c3 forum for years but, you guys will see me up here now. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

since you are new to the car makes sure that the DIC has a page displayed, press one of the buttons on the right side of the instrument cluster. each section has a blank screen at the end, if its set to that it won't come on. although I think you would still see the Corvette logo on start up anyway.

also make sure you don't have the dimmer all the way down. when the interior lights are set to the dimmest level they turn off, the DIC turns off with them. make sure that you have panel/cluster lights when you turn the dimmer up. make sure you don't have a bad dimmer switch.

I've never noticed on mine, but I'm pretty sure regardless of any of those you still see Corvette when you start the car. if your DIC really is dead then all I can do is with you luck. there was another thread about this recently, so I'm sure someone will chime in with a fix.

Thanks for jumping in. The dimmer is not turned down or off. The guy I bought the car from said he thought it needed to be replaced. I don't get anything but a blank screen.

The DIC is part of the IP Cluster itself. There's only been a couple of reported DIC failures and unfortunately I don't remember anyone with the problem ever coming back and posting up what they did to fix.

I had a problem with my DIC when I first bought my car too. It showed the mileage, but the buttons didn't work. I bought another cluster and put it in. Now it's fine. What I did'nt realize at first was theres a board in the cluster that controls the DIC functions. Your's might be bad. I think they might sell them by themselves. But you still would need to take apart the cluster. Good luck.

The DIC I'm talking about is the a/c, heater screen. Anyway thanks for the answers. I just ordered a replacement and I'll post the results after I install it.

We usually understand the DIC referring to the "Drivers Information Center" as the message display at the bottom of the IP Cluster. The HVAC display is just that, the HVAC. Thanks for clarifying what you were talking about. Have you gotten to the rear of it to make sure its connector is plugged in all the way?

The DIC you refer to is NOT a (or the) DIC.

As dgrant3880 advised check the connector at the rear if the HVAC Head Unit (and check all the terminals in the connector for tightness).

Glad you clarified the problem.

Good luck & keep us posted with the outcome.

if your HVAC display is not showing anything, that's A VERY common problem with C5s.

there's a very easy fix for it and there are many threads on doing it yourself.

I have been told that it's a common problem and that's why I ordered the replacement unit. I'll do a search for the fix it thread. Thanks!

Congrats on the C5. I love mine too but I think I will keep my avatar like it is. Do you still have the C3?

I'm thinking about a pic of the C-3 and the C-5 for an avatar. And yes I have both, for now. The 82 is up for sale.
