I did the LS6 swap. Easy enough. Noticeable gain. Fuel mileage went up 1.4 mpg according to the math. The DIC shows an average of mid 35's which is way out of line now from what it was before the swap.
You need to either mark and grind a small channel in the bottom to fit the coolant bleed tubes or buy the block off plugs and late model tube. Search for part numbers. In lieu of the block off plugs some use two late model bleed tubes, one front and one rear. They then plug the back port that connected in the front. A good write up can be found on LS1 how to forum.
No tune is needed with the slightly bigger injectors. I used them on mine. The pulse width will only allow what the ecm tells it. True a tuner can alter the tables and make them perform better but you can use them without a tune.
