After ice skating at the drag strip last night Im looking into getting a set of drag tires for the strip. I have a 2001 Z06 and want to run a weld pro star and just wanted to know what dementions to order. 5x4.75- maybe 15'' rim- 9''-10'' wide- I know stock backspacing is +58mm. Next what tire is everyone having good luck with? I was thinking about the mt drag et wrinkle walls? 28''-29'' maybe? Its lowered on stock bolts and im running nt555drs 305/35/18, good for street but suck at the track. Havent had it on the dyno but should make 410-425 range. Comp 224/228 xer, lg streets, orx, vararam, tune, etc.
We have a drag racing section on on this forum where a search will get you your options but you don't have maany.
As stated, you are not getting a 15" on that car unless you looking for making some serious changes, either an ECS spindle or a solid rear.
You are going to have trouble with that tall a tire also. A 28" is about as tall as you are going to get on there and then you might have to raise the car back up and/or remove teh inner fender lininigs.
Lastly, if you are going to run full slick you are going to want to also think about running bias ply skinnies up as a radial up front with a slick in the rear is going to likely be a little funny up there wtih sway.
CCW makes a drag pack, all ready to go with 16" all the way around and there are other options. www.ccwheel.com
IMHO, at your power levels, 17" front Z06 or thin spokes would work fine for you.
Get some Hoosier or M/T Street radials. 275/40/17
Have fun.
Thanks! Thats what i was waiting to hear. I got to looking at tires and wondered if i should run a 275. The mt drags require tubes unless you mean et streets right? Just browsing through a summit mag i have laying around. Looking to do a 75-100 shot in a month or so should these tires suffice?
The 275/40/17 M/T drag radials will hook you up enough to snap your differential output shaft. Ask me how I know. Better start looking into a hardened shaft and a transmission brace now rather than later.
I have a drag setup for sale that comes with 28" rear tires. It went down the track well and didnt break any parts on my car at 640rwhp. I think the bias ply tire takes a lot of stress off parts when it wrinkles.
a set of 17 inch y2k rims will do you nice!!! also I somewhere on the forum there is a link to some shops that can take a set of your rims and turn them into skinnies for the fronts cheaper than you buying some
I have 17" wagon wheels with Et streets. My vette sways alot, I replaced the rear shocks hoping that will help. I havent got a chance to go back but that should fix my problem. if you have the cash, buy some skinnies, some people have hit the wall because of the et streets and no skinnies. But some havent had any issues. Good Luck

I use stock 17X8.5 front thinspokes with 275/40/17 M/T drag radials on the rear, and I just had a set of stock 17 inch thinspokes cut down and narrowed to 4". Have a set of 185/55/17 M&H radials ready to mount on them. I have run 9's on the 275's, no issues at all. Havent used the newly made skinnies yet.

So you have run 9's with 17x8.5s all the way around??? For now i was just planning on runnng the stock 17x9.5 (265/40/17) up front and buy some of the z06 replicas 17x9.5 and run the 275/40/17 in the rear.
What has your c5 responded better to as far as a drag tire? I read a lot on both hoosier and mt, and wanted to run the hoosier cause im located in ga and the track prep is not always optimal. I read the mts are hard to beat with a well prepped track, but thats a 2hr drive where im at.
Whats the advantage of running a skinnie? I figured weight transfer would be a part but you may sacrafice some control?
