Probably another new member question about security/igition issues
I hate that my first post after my introduction is one about a problem with my new (to me) Vette.
The Car:
2000 6mt Corvette 100k
Has had the GM steering lock recall.
The car started and ran great for the first 3.5 weeks I've had her. No issues at all. Then all of a sudden a few days ago I went to crank her up to go to work and nothing. All the lights came on and the guages all fired up but the starter would not engage. The security light began flashing and that was the end of that. I tried cleaning the key (I only have one and no keyfob) to no avail. I am planning on pulling the ignition lock and cleaing it and the switch out as per the instructions on the nicely done write up. Does this problem sound familar? Is the fact that the key/lock are messed up trip the security system or is it the other way around? If I take it apart and find I need a new lock cylinder do I have to get the BCM reprogramed? Where is the best place to buy these parts online? I refuse to shop at the dealership here in town.
I am sorry to bring this back up as it has been discussed a good bit. I just want to make sure I get this right as the car is my daily. Thanks for any advice.
