I have a 2001 coupe that has the oil burning problem (2quarts in 3000 miles), I have heard that using the Royal Purple, eliminates this, is that true? Is there any other brands, and what weight are you using, my car is only driven in warm climates, thanks guys! :)
I switched to Royal Purple 5w30 700 miles ago to determine for myself whether or not this oil has any positive effect on oil consumption. Will post the results once I know the answer.
It sure cured mine! I was burning anywhere from 1-1.5qts per 2800 miles. I switched over to RP 5W30 and NO MORE CONSUMPTION. I even had the oil sample analyzed at Blackstone labs and it came back great. Protected just as well as M1!
Wow I know the product well.I dont believe it meets GM warranty spec but I know many people that love the stuff. Please keep us posted,we build them so there tight and dont burn oil just as any good shop does but I love hearing success stories that dont drain your wallet, and dont forget to make sure its running through a premium filter for MAX. protection.Good Luck.David Smilovic
I will keep you all posted, although it may be a while, we still have some snow on the ground where I live, and they are calling for more this weekend!

I've been told Mobil 1 has a significantly smaller molecular structure than RP (and others for that matter) which accounts for the usage.
Mobil 1 was notorious for leaking thru rope seals on the Buick GN and Pontiac Turbo Trans Am, and was corrected by going to another brand of oil. I suspect it also gets by the rings for the same reason.

Any oil that meets GM4718M is fine for the LS1. RP meets and exceeds this spec.
