I went to fire up the car (99 coupe) this morning and the battery was completely dead. There was a buzzing/humming noise coming from the driver’s seat. It seems to be from a small motor under the seat (bladder inflator?) in a pouch of some sort. I figured I’d charge the battery while I was at work, but the charger cycles from charging to thinking the battery is charged and this cycling is accompanied by a buzzing in the fuse panel on the passenger side floor. I pulled the #3 and 4 fuses (driver seat and lumbar fuses) and disconnected the battery charger.
Is this just the motor under the drivers seat getting stuck in the on position and draining the battery, or is there a gremlin elsewhere in the electrical system.? Has anyone else seen this? Can I leave the #3 and 4 fuses out, charge the battery and use the car? Is this an easy fix or will the dealer have to figure it out? Is that little motor under the driver’s seat easy to pull out and replace?
Any suggestions as to next steps are appreciated. Thanks!
Re: Dead battery, buzzing driver's seat, help neded (white93)
I think you may have a starter going out. I had the same problem recently on my 1999. I hoped in my car to start it up and nothing. It had no power and made a ticking noise when I was trying to crank it. That was followed by a loud buzzing noise under the passenger floor board which is were the starter is on these cars. After a few tries it started up and I was able to drive it home. Replaced the starter which took about 2-3 hours and it's running great know.
