2000 C-5, MN6, bone stock, 46K miles. When I release the clutch to go forward or reverse, I get a drive train clank or pop. I feel the noise thru the shifter when it occurs. It only does it one time, I only get the noise when I go from forward or reverse, as long as I do not change directions, no pop or clank.
Things I have done, Torque wheel lug nuts, Torque axle nuts, still no change. Never had any problem exectpt the leaky butt, took three times at GM's expense to get that fixed, so the car has been apart in the rear, however I have check everything for being tight. Any ideas?
I have a 02 Z06 - same problem ???? Do you have any other problems with rearend when driving slow and turning? It feels like the clutches in the rear locking up. if you find out please post.
Did you try backing the axle nut off, pushing the axle in, and lubricating the inner hub, bearing surface, and splines?
When rust builds up in the inner splines and hub, there is a stick/release action that will cause a pop when you reverse the load on the axles.
Just torquing the axle nuts will not always cure the problem. You need some lubrication.

I had a very similar sound and all that was needed was to remove the axle shaft, clean and lube the splines.
