A/c light blinks

I have a problem with the a/C switch in my 98 C5. It has the auto system and for some reason the light on the A/C switch went off. I pushed in in and the light just blinks a few times and stays off. Of course, the compressor goes off too. Any help on this?

My outside temp initially reads in single digits at which time the a/c will not work. Once the ambient temp goes up I can turn the a/c on.

Yes lucky I think the connector to the temp sensor in the radiator area is faulty. Unfortunately I'm on crutches now so it will just have to ride for now.
