Thanks to all of you who responded to my post a few weeks ago about the part number, etc, for the redesigned intake manifold to correct the whistle problem in the early 2001 models.
Special thanks to Wolfster and Gene who really helped with specifics. Got my baby back from the dealer today with the new 2002 (same as ZO6) manifold. The problem is gone and it feels more responsive!
This forum comes thru again for me...what a great asset it is for Vette owners.
Re: THANKS FOR SOLVING 2001 INTAKE WHISTLE (Along4theRide)
Here's the solution I got from forum members and gave to my dealer to get this fixed. It was NO CHARGE (dealer work order showed ~$590 for parts plus about 3 hours labor. That's a pricey fix for GM.
There is no TSB on the manifold whistle. The fix is to replace your 2001 manifold with a 2002 version. It looks identical to the 2001 manifold except they 've done something to correct the casting defect
in the plenum area. The new Part # is 88894339. Chevrolet knows about this aaaaand the part is no longer on back order.
If your dealer does not have a C5 Technician available for the repair, I would go somewhere else. You don't want a youngster who's doing oil changes all day to handle this.
Also, the manifold for the LS1 is the same as the Z06 or LS6 manifold. Just use the part number I cited and you should be okay.
Now, with the ZO6 intake manifold installed, I plan to get the ZO6 airbox from Bob at forum supporter Ken Flichtner's dealership (~$44) and really get it to breath better.
