What do C5 air tubes do?
What do the Air Tubes on a c5 do? And why are they so easy to get rid of completely?
I ask because I just finished the header install and they were tuned out and blocked off.
Is this like the clutch fan on my older m3, where it does almost nothing but add weight and pull current?

They give the engine a quick/short shot of air at start up only. Supposedly this helps the CATs light off better, but mainly it's an EPA thing.
They are easy to get rid of because we got lucky. Quit looking a gift horse in the mouth

I believe they feed oxygen(fresh air) into the exhaust system to help the cats warm up faster. The car does its worst polluting before the converters begin to function. The air system only operates for the first few minutes when the engine is cold. IMHO, you could take it off, but unless your last name is Schumacher, you're not going to notice. The air pump is a small plastic thing that doesnt weigh very much....I'd unblock em and tune them back in.
