Just purchased a spec stage 3+ clutch and have a question about flywheels. My car is an 01 Z06 and has just over 28,000 miles on it. I have a G5X3 cam and daily drive the car. Because I drive it so often I really dont want to put an aluminum flywheel in the car - my question is can I use the stock flywheel with this clutch?
Since the car has low miles, I assume I can either just touch up the flywheel surface or leave it alone. Also, I have a spacer that goes behind the slave so I believe my pedal height should be okay - is this spacer required all the time or do I need to take some sort of measurement to check?
I bought the clutch slightly used for a good deal so if I can get away with it I would like to use the stock flywheel, just want to check to see if I can.
I am sure I could daily drive it with an aluminum flywheel... however like I said, I got the clutch for cheap and if the stock flywheel will work fine then I would rather keep it. I have searched around and found a few instances where people have used the stock flywheels so that is my plan. Can anyone else verify this will work? Thanks again.
With that cam no. I remember forgot his handl name, have G5x2 cam only package on his 01 Z06 and had hell of a time idling right with AL Flywheel, finally Ed from VA speed tuned his car and even than it was little hit n miss specially at stop light.
Stock flywheel will work fine, may be check the surface or take this new clutch and stock FW to mchinist to balance.
I also had a spec 3 with a fidanza flywheel and never had any issues, except the fact that the spech 3 clutch chattered quite a bit upon engagement if the rpms werent high enough, normal function according to Summit Racing,as for the spacer,if im not mistaken,i think in the directions is specifies to use on the F body cars,I installed it on mine and had to take it out cause the clearance was minimal and the throwout bearing was riding against the preassure plate forks making a squeeling noice in neutral position, just my opinion and experience,by no means am i an expert, but thought id share my Spec 3 experience, since then, ive gone with a Cartek setup and love it!
I just put a spec 3+ in my Z06 with a LSA cam (245/252 636/612 on a 112) I used a new stock flywheel and just sanded the surface... I have no complaints.
