I have a custom exhaust system similiar to the Borla XR-1. After Mike Norris did some heavy modifications to my car, the stainless muffler broke apart inside. I said OK, and called the fabricator, and he sent me another muffler. Cool. Mike put it on for me when I went back for some adjustements. This past Thursday, I'm sitting at a light next to a van, and I hear the rattle again! Damn. The muffler has broken apart again!! Oh well, so I called the fabricator. He's astonished because he welded extra support into this muffler, but says he'll send another, but it will be about 2 weeks. I'm not driving around with this rattle for 2 weeks. It's just driving me nuts. I go visit my long time muffler friend and explain my dilema. He looks and says, I don't have anything like that, BUT, we could weld in a couple of 18" glasspacks!! I said lets do it. I'm not living with that rattle. Well they're on there. The 2 Glasspacks fit nicely side by side in the tunnel. At idle it's quieter than my old system. At high revs, it's just as loud, but a different sound. I'm going to do some more driving today to see if I really like the sound, as yesterday was raining and I didn't want to do any WOT sprints. Just too dangerous. The glasspacks cost $11.00 each, and the install was $60.00. If this holds together, I might just keep it and sell the new stainless muffler when it arrives!! You know, come to think about it, I can't see that pretty stainless muffler underneath the car anyway. Just thought I'd mention this in case someone is looking for a low cost alternative to the high price systems.
My nephew works at a muffler shop and he installed 36" glass packs on his 97 vette. It really sounds great.A deep tone without the roar.I have been toying with the idea of having 2 put on my car also. You may have made the decision for me.Ihaven't rode in the car yet to see if there is any resonance in the passenger compartment yet. :chevy :chevy :flag :chevy :chevy
There used to be resonance with the old muffler around 2000 rpm's. With the 18" glasspacks, there is no resonance, and a much deeper tone. It is loud, but not any louder than my old muffler. In fact it's quieter at idle and there is hardly any popping on decelleration. But loudness is a personal preference, and everybody has their own ideas of what loud is. I'm not used to the different sound yet. Glasspacks have a distinct sound, all their own.
I´m very interested in this mod. Can you please describe the location of the glasspack? Is 18" the lenght? What is the diameter? Did you go 2.5" in and 2.5" out of the glasspack? Do you take pictures to show us?
Excuse me for all these questions, but the item is exactly what I want to do since I got my car.

Frederik,
Yes they are 18" in length and they are located side by side in the tunnell, then the pipes go straight out the back. Yes, they are 2 1/2" in and out. The outside diameter of each Glasspack is 4". I have no pictures, but I will try to take some the next time the car is in the air. The sound is hard to describe, and I'm not really sure if I like it or not. I'm going to drive it for a while, and I may change it back when my new muffler gets here.
