car totaled!
Thanks, Paul.

figure 2k for each airbag pop, so that's $4,000 before you've even touched the body.
So yeah, it's probably totalled.
Be nice to the adjuster. Do a little research on what a comparably equipped and conditioned car will bring, but don't offer up that data for argument until you get their first offer. It might actually surprise you. I've had 2 friends that totalled Corvettes, and both times they got quite a bit more than they expected. It seems the undeserved stigma of Corvettes = $$$$ works in our favor here.

I have a 2005 C6, insurance adjuster said 15K, my guy at body shop got 20K out of them. 2 months later before my guy at body shop was done, he got an additional 7K out of them.
So I could have taken 28K for my car which wasnt even worth but maybe a few thousand more than that. My point is, you never really know the extent of the damage until you are 80% of the way putting it back together.
My collission sounds alot like yours, it really wasnt that bad and it turned out it took 27K to fix it.

I'd concentrate on your injuries first, and make sure you come out of this as well as possible.
I had my Vette totaled this summer, it was hit on the other end and in a parking lot of all places. I was not in it, so that is a plus.
The ins co was pretty fair, the decision to total it was kind of forced on them by the body shop putting in a high estimate for repair and too high of an estimate for salvage from the salvage co. But, I would want the body shop to do a good job, so no real blame on them trying to do a good job. The costs of the new parts though was high, in my area the dealers get 20-30% over what I can get the parts for including shipping to my door. You may not have that issue. The salvage co though hadn't had a Vette to salvage before so I'm sure they saw $$'s.
The two estimates combined was right at the market value of the car. After their first offer I sent them receipts for recent work and they took that into account on the settlement. I kind of knew it was going to be totaled so I took the position to maximize the settlement rather than trying to keep it from being totaled.
The final settlement was OK, I took the car and the difference between the salvage value and the market value. I did balk a little and they reduced the salvage value almost in half.
I would have rather just had the Vette repaired, but now I'm in the position that I can make the Vette a track only car (or at least 99% of the time) and that is pretty fun as well. You may not be in the same position and it may be best to just take the money and get a new Vette.
Good luck on your injuries, that is more important than the Vette.
