Default Oil temp sensor adaptor...

Does anyone know whether the oil flowing through this housing has passed thru the filter yet, or does it flow thru the filter after the temp sensor?

The reason I ask is my oil pressure sensor is pushing 8yrs old now and, from what I've been reading, is due to pop. I'd like to relocate it this winter while I have the car apart, but I'm not a big fan of a braided line screwed to a coupler screwed to a coupler screwed to a coupler...

Using the front oil port by the oil pump would be the simplest and most elegant way of moving the sensor, but as people have mentioned, its before the oil filter which could possibly lead to false readings. It seems to me that that would only be the case if the filter bypass opened, if for example the filter was super clogged, or the oil was really thick.

If the temp sensor is after the filter, I can machine a new adaptor at work that would accept both sensors. If not, I'll just use the front port and be done with it.

What do you guys think?

Here's the LS1/6 oil-flow diagram.

If you're concerned about it's age, get a new brass sensor (BWD S4202) and leave it in the stock factory location.

A picture speaks a thousand words...Thanks Patches! The oil temp sensor IS downstream of the filter. I also now finally understand what that "barbell" restrictor does!

Now, for the bounus round...what's at the bottom of the vertical gallery that actually feeds the oil pressure sensor? If it was drilled, there must be a plug of some kind at the end??

For sure brass? I have NO problem leaving it where it is if it will be half way reliable, which they don't seem to be.

Default I know its not a vette engine.

Sure enough...there is a plug. Has anyone tried relocating their pressure sensor to this location. It would be waaay easier to reach at this location than it would up top. All that would be needed is an extension to the existing wire harness.

Borg-Warner S4202 sensors are now made of brass, and seem to be much less failure prone so far.

Just out of curiosity...has anyone here actually used this port to mount their sensor? It seems to me like the perfect place to relocate it to and solve a potential problem once and for all.
