Default Trans slippage

If my trans is slipping should it throw a code? Seems to me to be slipping somewhat on hard acceleration from cruising at say 40-50 MPH. Checked and found no codes.
Thanks

If it is an automatic there probably will be no codes. As I recall mine did not throw any. Start watching your transmission temp.. If it is slipping it will be running hotter. At 250 degrees the DIC will lite up and the car will go into slow mode. I had problems with the 3-4 shift. Depending on your driving style, the transmission will drop dead sooner or later.

Doesn't seem real bad and temps are under 200

Having the same problem, accelerating between 45 and 55 normaly and it seems to be slipping in and out of OD. Its worse when going uphill.
Having the fluid and filter changed this week.
Its only does it once in a while and does not do it when in 3rd manually.
Any ideas?

YES! I had the same problem and I only had 60K miles on the car so I figured I would go ahead and change the fluid and filter. Well that didn't fix it. I noticed on bumpy roads it would get worse. It would fall out of OD and then go back into OD. I would lose my cruise control when this would happen too. I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on and then one of the guys on the forum here told me to check my brake switch. So I did and what I found is that the pedal was definitely loose against the switch. I adjusted the switch out and haven't had a problem since.

Now, what this means: Sometimes the brake pedal would work its way off of the switch or out a little bit and the car would think that I was applying the brakes. This would in turn cause me to lose cruise control and the car to fall out of overdrive. I don't know if that's the same thing you are experiencing but it's worth a try.

I guess my questions to you would be:

1. Does it get worse when you are on a bumpy road?

2. Do you lose your cruise control when the car falls out of OD?

If so you probably have the same problem I had. Check the brake switch.

Thanks for the Reply Rohan-
Not having any cruise control problems, but also have not been on any really bumpy roads. This something I will keep an eye on but its not sounding like the same issue im having.
Why would hitting the brake (or a brake switch- guessing you mean the brake light switch) have any effect on the OD?
When it acts up its more of a stutter type thing, not really missing any shift points. Just kinda grabs the OD gear lets loose, gets it again maybe 4 times and then all is fine.
It feels more like clutch slippage more than anything else-- will see what the filter and fluid change does for it.

Yeah, I didn't understand it either but I'll try and find the posting and forward it to you in a PM. Doesn't sound like the same problem.

First thing you need to check is the fluid level. B\G

It also has a lot to do with the engine temperature. If the engine and tranny are not warm enough it will seem to be going into and oit of high gear about 40-45.

Well, the tranny dropped dead sooner! In November. It was the 3-4 pack. Had it completely rebuilt, and it's like new now.
