Is anyone here using the "Hardbar" fire extinguisher mount advertised in the Mall? I'm trying to help a friend locate a fire extinguisher mount that mounts to his roll cage (built by SpeedWorks). Any feedback is appreciated. Are these for 2.5 lb fire extinguishers? It says that aluminum one is for aluminum bars. He already has an aluminum camera mount, so wouldn't the aluminum fire extinguisher mount look better?
Does anyone have other recommendations for roll cage mounted fire extinguishers? We need to get a fire extinguisher mount ordered so we can get it installed before the Big Bend Open Road Race in April. :)
Thanks!

Rob,
I have one of Garry’s (of Hardbar) fire extinguisher mounts on my steel Hardbar. The Steel Hardbar is smaller in diameter than the aluminum but both mounts work the same. It’s basically a plate welded to a couple of U clamps that are joined together with hex head screws. Very solid. The plate can be drilled to match the mounting bracket that comes with your fire extinguisher. I have a 2.5 lb. unit on mine and I’m not sure I would go much larger. Why don’t you contact Gary. He’s a good guy and I’m sure he could give you much more information, including dimensions. – C.
Rob - Gary at Hardbar makes an elegant mount for his hardbars. The problem is sizing. When I went racing, I had to put an approved cage in my car, and the tubing size is nominally 1.75", which is larger than Gary's mounts for the steel bar, and smaller than for the aluminum bar. The GCR requires metal mounts. So I got a Halitron 2.5 bottle with steel bracket and releases, and mounted the bracket to the cage with SS worm (hose) clamps, which may not be elegant, but satisfies the GCR requirements.
Elk,
Thanks for the info. I left a message for Gary to call me so I can get more info.
C.,
I'll see you at Big Bend. I'll be in a Y2K NBM C5 with MTI "ZO7" badges. :D
rbeckham,
It sounds like the Hardbar won't work that great for this application then. It is for 1.750" tubing. I'll wait and see what Gary has to say, though. I talked to John Bulba at Road Tech and it sounds like he is going to be able to do something for us. John does excellent work, so I know it will be high quality if we have him do it.
