Default failed oil pressure sender

I have the above mentioned dreaded situation on my 2002. the gauge is pegged at 130psi. How urgent, if at all is it necessary to replace. It is not raced, just a weekend cruiser.

Thanks

No biggie.....provided you don't mind not knowing what your oil pressure is.

From what I could gather from other forum members get the brass one made by Borg Warner - Not sure on the part number but do a search in Tech. Avoid the aluminum unit as I've been told they can fail easily. I'm in the same boat as you - OP pegged. I've got the replacement sender sitting on my workbench but I'm waiting for a crappy weather weekend to put it in. Got mine from Autozone.

Make sure it's brass before you buy it! Some old stock sensors on the shelf might still be aluminum.

after having removed the manifold a couple times, it becomes a 30 minute job.

Ask them to see it first. Do Not Buy the aluminum one. Bwd from advance.

Also imo you should change the sensor the old fashioned way so you can clean out all that gunk under the intake and clean out the knock sensor area. Its worth the extra work in my book.

Cutting a hole in the cowl, to reach the sensor, falls way below my standards of professional work.

I don't think I have the know-how to tackle taking the intake off. Best left to a pto. What would the job cost to have it done?

ECS should be less than an hour from you. Why not give them a call and see what they can do for you?

The labor for replacing oil sender is 2.1 hrs so depending on the shops labor rate is how much you will have to pay. Buy the oil sender from advance should be around $35 to $45 and maybe $150 for labor. Hope this helps.

MAKE SURE ITS A BRASS one

The labor for the job calls for 2.1hrs @ maybe 75 /hr so $150 + 40 for the oil sending unit roughly $200+ tax of course. Tell the dealer all u want changed is the oil sender unit only and it takes 2.1 hrs for the job per motoralldata why the $300 to 500 price? Should be 200 with parts.

Now if you do it yourself its free all you need is the part .

Good luck

i think just bear the brunt of paying the labor of relocating it... but have to get this product first, check this link...

http://www.totalperformanceengineeri...roducts_id=840

....then you can DIY easily the next time sender fails

Brass is good but don't get too obssessed with getting a brass unit instead of an aluminum unit. My aluminum unit is now 2 years old with no worries. Of course I also have the stainless-hose-oil-sender-relocate mod too. If mine ever does fail in the future, all I have to do is pop the driver's side engine trimcover off and there it is; right next to the ignition coils.
