Default Stuck clutch pedal??

After backing my car in the garage, I pulled the e-brake and held the clutch pedal in before shutting the car off. After the car stopped, I went to let out the clutch pedal and the pedal stayed depressed. With the car off I was able to put the shifter into any gear with no issue. I then tried to start the car (out of gear to be safe) and the car started. The pedal remained depressed but I was not able to put the shifter into any gear without more than normal force. Not wanting to do further damage I refrained from trying to force the shifter into gear and just shut the car off again. Pedal was still in at this point. I checked for leaks and all was good. The reservoir was full and the fluid was not dirty. The car sat overnight prior to my moving it into the garage. Approximately an hour or so later I went back out and discovered the clutch pedal was back to normal and had normal pressure. I pumped it many times with car on and off and couldn't get it to repeat or weaken. Haven't tried to drive the car since so not sure if it was a fluke or not. Anyone else ever have this happen?

Yes I did-about a month ago, after work, mine did the same thing-I could still shift gears, but the release/engage point was apx 1" off the floor-then,slowly the pedal slowly came back up where it belonged.

"Just a fluke" I hoped, and all was fine for a week, then it did it again, but this time there was no shifting, but slowly, within 5 minutes, the pedal crept back up to where it belonged.

That one worried me,though,because it wasn't driveable(I know how to limp a car around without a clutch,but that's not really "driveable",especially in traffic,and mine's a DD)

So that Weekend I installed a new clutch master cylinder, but I had a feeling that wasn't the problem, although it was all good for 3 days after the install.

Then I got home from work on the 4th day, and the wife said "your Vette dripped something on the garage floor last night".(it hadn't dripped ANYTHING for the 11 months I'd had it)
Looked under there, and sure enough-clutch fluid was dripping out from between the inspection plate and bellhousing.

With 63k on the car,I wasn't really surprised-every vehicle I've owned with a hydraulic clutch had had problems with the hydraulics, but the slave cylinder change on them was about an hour job-

Here's a link to the thread on what I ended up finding:

I really hope yours isn't the same thing, and it may not be-you may just need to do a fluid change on your clutch(do a search for "Ranger Method")

I tried that, but nothing was going to help my situation but a new Slave cylinder, and while I'm in there(it's apart in the garage as I post this)a new Spec Stage2 Clutch, and a Tick remote bleeder.

If you do end up needing a slave,it's not really that hard to do,but it does take some time.

Good Luck

I was thinking slave cylinder... was hoping to hear something else though! My car has just over 20k miles so this seems to be a bit early by some other things I've heard. I just changed the fluid about a month ago and have driven the car sporadically since then with no issues. I have felt that the clutch was different though. Can't really describe it. It was like the pedal was only serving a purpose at the last inch of push and release.

I did have an unusal incident with the clutch a couple weeks ago. I was down shifting and went from 4th to 3rd and then accelerated. Revs stayed high as if the car was spinning the tires. Lots of smoke...from the clutch I presume, not the tires! Other than it smelled bad, everything seemed to be fine. Even made a 500 mile round trip with no issues since that incident. Thanks for the detailed write-up. I'll look into this more when I get home from work.
