I had a bad air leak on a front wheel which turned out to be a small failure in the circumferential weld on on my wheel. I have a 2000 C5. I got a new wheel which is subtly different from the stock one.
I have read posts about problems with "thin spoke" wheels. Which I guess I have. Could someone check out these pictures and see if they know about the replacement I got and is it a fix. I did not want to get all new wheels right now as I am selling the car because I want a new one. (anyone want a real clean car, call 858-547-3995).
Originally GM used forged wheels for both the high polish thin spoke and the painted thin spoke. However, the manufacturer could not meet demand so the painted thin spoke was changed from a forged wheel to a cast wheel during the Y2K production run. For replacement high polish thin spokes GM started using the cast wheels sometime later. The forged thin spokes I had on my 97 were stolen in 2002 and the new wheels I got from the dealer were the cast version. The cast wheels are just slightly different than the forged wheels. Just as in your pictures. Side by side it is easy to see the differences by themselves you just know something is different.
