My auto dimming mirror has quit working, but the interior lights on the mirror still work. Anyone have one of those little known but really easy fixes for it?
Can any body tell me what the four wires that go to the mirror are for. There are two orange, one black and one brown wire. The two orange are power to the mirrior and I think the black is a ground, but what is the brown for?
I had this problem earlier, and I first checked the fusebox by the passenger footwell. I found the relevant fuse had blown. I replaced the fuse but it promptly blew again. At that point I realized the fuse had blown because something else wasn't right.
After some reading here, I checked my reverse lights and they did not work either. The problem turned out to be the reverse sensor. It's a plug that screws into the transmission, with a wire stemming from it. Picked up a new one at Napa for about $20, popped it in place, then replaced my blown fuse (again) and all was well.
Maybe this will help!

Good to know. There's no way I would have guessed that a reverse sensor was causing my auto dim mirror to fail.
If you are holding the mirror, looking at the back of it, the connector should be numbered 1-7, starting near the middle and going outward towards the outer edge of the mirror. The wires should be inserted like so:
1 = Brown (Hot from headlight switch)
2 = Black (Ground)
3 = no wire
4 = no wire
5 = no wire
6 = Orange 2 (Hot from the door switch)
7 = Orange 1 (Hot all the time)
