Hi I just purchased my first Corvette it a 97 with 55,000 miles on it.
Someone has changed the shift **** and busted the little orange indicator.
So I took everything apart found the busted piece used some epoxy and fixed the indicator.
I put everything back together the car shifts into all the gears but the indicator is in the wrong spot.
So, I don’t think that the person that installed the **** busted it. If you shift all the way down to 1, you have P N D 3 2 1 I’m not sure if it’s called 1st, low 1
But anyhow if you go all the way into 1st the orange indicator will break again.
Is there any way to adjust the shift cable? I have checked both ends of the cable and nether are broken
Thanks Scott

Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
Shift the transmission into NEUTRAL.
Using a flat bladed screwdriver, carefully pry to release the transmission shift control cable adjustment lock.
Check to be sure that the transmission floor shift control is in the NEUTRAL detent position.
Check to be sure that the transmission is in the NEUTRAL detent position.
Press to secure the transmission shift control cable adjustment lock.
Lower the vehicle.
Thanks I tried that but guess what the cable was already bottomed out. So back inside the car I went, took the whole inside apart again. Took another look to see if I could figure out what was going on. My 1st assumption was correct the guy who put the shifter **** on didn't pay attention to how he took it apart. the collar that holds the orange indicator was up side down and backwards. well at least I'll be able to sleep now.
I broke that little indicator when trying to install a two tone shift boot. Funny story, because I bought the one from MidAmerica to save a few bucks. Trying to install the shift boot that is not already attached to the ring around the P,R,N,D,3,2,1 is impossible, I think. Long story short, I ended buying one from VE anyway already attached to the ring and whole new shifter ring. In the end, it cost me twice as much, maybe more
no one noticed, but in the pic below - the car is in park, but the indicator is in drive - stare at that for a few months, it drive you

So WHY isn't VE marketing the red plastic shift indicator? They KNOW everyone has a busted one! If I can ever find a good one, off it goes to China to get some made! Why China? Because they are hungry and anxious to get business, just like we used to be. I can't get ANYTHING made here anymore.... and everything here is made in China anyway. I buy the same LED light bulbs fronm China for a buck that Lowe's sells for $17.98!
