Default Battery tender question

I just bought a battery tender plus. I hooked it up to black negative and red positive terminal. The red charging light stays on even though my battery is charged. Does any one know what is wrong. Should I hook the negative wire to the engine block instead of the negative terminal. Thanks Jim

How do you know the battery is fully charged? Other than that I suppose it could be a defective charger.............

Even if your battery has a good charge, your tender will indicate solid red for a while before changing to green to indicate a full charge and that it's in maintenance mode. If the light never goes to green within a day should you suspect a bad charger or battery.

My battery tender stays red all the time, whether hooked up to 110 volts and the battery or just the battery. Been that way for 4 years and never had a problem with it.

It takes the Battery Tender quite a while to get a car battery fully charged. Give it a couple of days and keep looking at it. It will turn green. I use the Tender on my 70 about once or twice during the winter and it keeps the battery fully charged and ready to go. On my motor cycle or lawn mower it takes less than a day to fully charge the battery. My 70 may take a day or two to get it up to full charge. It will also build quite a bit of heat when charging.

I went several months and a couple dead start ups before I purchased my battery tender. When I first hooked it up, the red light stayed on for a while and the unit was hot. so hot I was concerned, but it wasnt an issue. they tender was working overtime to bring my near dead battery back to life.

That was a year ago. Now I use it everyday and it barely gets warm while cycling the battery charge
