Metal "O" Ring on the differential drain plug needed?
Just changed the fluid , and found the metal o-ring in the oil pan. It is sealing, as is, without drips or leaks just fine. Anyone have first hand experience with this? I can just put it back on without to much trouble, but if it works fine as is then why bother?

It is used as a seal, but if you have no leaks, I wouldn't worry about it. One thing about the carrier, the fluid is not under pressure like in the tranny (there is a relief valve on the top). The gears just rotate in a pool of fluid... sloshing it all around.

Hey, Mike Mercury.
How funny, we finished the 2.73 to 3.42 swap and that was the only part left over, I found it at the edge of my driveway the next day! I put it on just to have piece of mind.

Thanks for the replies. The only reason I don't just do it, is because I only have 1/8 Qt. of Redline left and if I botch the drain plug swap, well then I might just need more oil!
