Anybody have any clues as to how to keep the computer in my 2002 from throwing the Service Tire Mon. Sys. warning when I don't have the tire monitors? The previous owner put ZO6 wheels and F-1 Goodyear tires on the car so there are no pressure monitors. The DIC has started showing the afore mentioned notice. I usually just hit "Reset" but the next time I stop the car and re-start it comes back. I would like to get it to go away permanently. Thanks.
Your profile says you have a 2002. The TPMS can be programmed out of 2001 - 2004 C5's.
Since you don't like having to clear the error every time you start the car, you have two choices:
1) Buy the TPMS sensors and have them installed.
2) Find a tuner and have them program the system out of your car.
Wrong on choice 2. As mentioned by csc67, you need a Tech 2 to do this. Tuners only work on the PCM (Powertrain Control Module.) The info for the TPMS is in the BCM and can only be accessed by the Tech 2 computer. The info on how to get to this option using a Tech 2 is contained on this page:
I think what he meant to say was find someone that works (tunes) Corvettes who has a Tech 2 and have them do it. Thanks for the replies. Now the search begins. I have a friend and fellow club member who works on 'Vettes so I'll ask him if he has one. I appreciate the help. Strange, the '81, as much as I hate working on that thing, was never this complicated! :-) (I don't care for a car that's smarter than I am).
