I have tried what the manual says for a week now and the message keeps coming back.It resets to _ _ _ % but wont go to 99% like the book says it should.I didn't reset it with the last oil change and it only has about 1500 miles on that change so I know its not due yet.Can somebody help me out since I appear to be slightly ignorant about this issue. Thanks

The oil change indicator has not been reset. Do this....with the engine OFF, turn the key to the RUN position (not START). Floor the gas pedal three times. That will reset the oil change indicator to 100%. When you drive the car for a short distance the indicator will drop to 99% and function normally thereafter.

Gas pedal method seems to have fixed the problem.I tried the way the manual says again just to be sure first and it wouldn't reset. Thanks for the info folks I appreciate it.

I have a red 04 C5 as well and I’m experiencing this same behavior. Car on engine off, both gas petal method and trip/reset button method doesn’t work and it’s been weeks. I also disconnected the battery and waited a hour to reconnect and it still won’t stay reset.

Congrats on reviving a 15 year old thread. To confirm, you are doing the following? :
Yes i have completed these exact steps. I hear the little sound and see the oil life go from 47% to___% then to 100% when holding the reset button while viewing the oil life on the display. Also hitting the gas 3 times resets it successfully as well but it won’t stay reset and goes back to 47% anytime i jump back in the car. I’ve also driven it immediately after resetting it as well but no luck.

Nahh no codes at all. Also i think it’s even more strange that when it goes back to 47% it stays there, it doesn’t decrease at all. I’ve driven over 2k mikes for sure.
