We live in a very small town and there isn't to many Vette's around so somehow my name and number was givin to this person having battery problems on a (maybe) 2001 model coupe..
Anyway is there any possiblility that any 2001 Coupes came with no keyholes in the doors ?? To make a long story short this lady calls me this morning to ask how to get the door open on their 2001 coupe because the battery had died..Her husband is a tree cutter and is out in the woods this morning so she really isn't sure what year it could be after I ask her a few questions about the car..Such as is the headlights fixed or do they pop open etc,etc...
I'm pretty sure its a 2005 or newer model because they had no keyholes in the doors and the key fob has a access key to open the trunk to get in the car just incase something like a dead battery would happen...Anyway he is suppose to call me once he gets home and I told her I would have some kind of answer for her..
My 2001 has a key lock on the drivers door but not the passenger. The lock keyhole is part of the door handle assembly, not a separate piece.
Thanks AllVette I just pulled up a bunch of 2001 Vette pictures and they showed me the same thing you are telling me...I'll be talking to them soon..
Thanks Bud..

I had an 05 with battery problems. Open the trunk with the key and there is an emergency pull on the left side kind of behind the gas fill in the interior. The owner's manual, if she has it, spells out the procedure.

Thanks capevettes...If its a 2005 which now thats what I'm thinking I'll be sure and tell them....
Hope it's not a Vert as they don't have a key hole for the trunk and if the battery is dead the remote isn't going to open that either......
Looks like the hatch/trunk key lock is mounted horizontally above the license plate recess. It would not be obvious at a glance.
From the 05 owner's manual:
Page 2-12
From outside the vehicle, use the door release tab
located on the carpet inside the trunk on the driver’s side
of the vehicle. Pull the tab to unlock and unlatch the
driver’s door. See Hatch/Trunk on page 2-14 for
information on opening the trunk during a loss of power.
2-15 (cont'd from 2-14)
If your vehicle has lost battery power, open the
hatch/trunk using the vehicle key. The key lock cylinder
is located on the rear of the hatch/trunk lid above the
license plate. Turn the vehicle key clockwise in the lock.
If your vehicle has a convertible top and has lost
battery power, you can also use the emergency trunk
release handle to open the trunk. See “Emergency
Trunk Release Handle” following.
