if both bulbs are rated the same wattage?
Example:
The sylvania OEM bulb is rated 55 watts.
The sylvania silver star ultra bulb is rated 55 watts.
What makes the SSU bulb brighter?
Its really not all that much brighter. Just a different color sort of. Best bet if you want brighter is to convert to HID. Go with 6000k, and you will be happy. I have 6000k on my Z06 and I love it.
The hotter the bulb filament glows, the whiter the light becomes. 55W at 6000 deg K is whiter than 55W at 5000 deg K for instance.
Also, typically the hotter the filament glows, the shorter the life of the filament.
I agree. Everytime I switched to these so-called "super white" bulbs, they would burn out in less than 6-months. I always ended up going back to standard bulbs. Just not worth it. Also since they burn hotter, they are more sensitive to the amount of on-off cycles which will also shorten their life.

Went from stock to PIAA bulbs now running HID, what a huge difference.
