Default Replacing worn tires

First, I apologize in advance if this subject has been covered somewhere already, I searched a little, but wasn't exactly sure what to look for.

The tires on my 2003 C5 are pretty worn. I just replaced the back tires with used OEM Goodyear F1s (they have perhaps 50% tread left) but the fronts are pretty bald also. Times being what they are, I can't afford to pop for a new set.

So... what are the rules about mixed tire replacement? Would I be asking for trouble/risking disaster if I replaced the worst of the two fronts with a better tire and ran with two differently worn tires or even two different brands of tire (of same size, with similar tread pattern) on the same axle?

In a similar vein, I hear a lot of good things about the PS2 tires. Again, would I be flirting with mayhem to put two newer PS2s on the front and retained the current Goodyears on the back?

Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

Most with modded C5's are running a mix....front to back.....because drag radials are needed for traction. I would not mix unlike tires, even if the tread depth is identical, on the front.

Don't mix tires on the same axle...most tires are slightly different in diameter, so it will mess up the traction control in the back...and it might pull to one side, as the tread pattern is different and therefore causes different friction with the road. Indy
