C 5 Headlight doors-need help
Have a 2000 C5 that one Headlight door will not open. After opening manualy, it will open and close for a while. The other Headlight door motors runs for about 10 seconds after the door has closed.

Its the plastic gears stripping. Look in the Ultimate DIY Thread at the top. There pics On how to fix this . You can get repair kits with brass gears for about $50 ea. From Corvette Central, Eckler`s etc. I bought a kit online. But I did a quick fix by disconnecting The linkage that lifts the door from the inside of the motor & rotating the gear 180 deg with the manual **** & reconnect the linkage. There are a couple threads in the DIY section at the top. They will show pics of the motor etc. I raised the door with the **** then went in from the bottom took 30 min. If you have small enough hands I think you could do it from above. This is a very common prob. There about 6 or 7 small screws that you remove the panel just in front of the wheel & behind the corner air dams. incl. the dam. Then you have to bend the brake cooling duct in half & move it out of the way.& the linkage is right there. Good luck.

Might not be the gear. The rubber insert on the gear will come apart after time too. That is what happened to mine. Google Rodney Dickman, and look for his corvette parts. He makes a kit that includes brass gears and new inserts. Top notch stuff, and cheaper than other sources.
