Default EBCM and BPMV codes

I'm getting 1242, 1287 and 1214 codes on my 2001 coupe. Active handling is kicking in randomly and I'm getting some Service Traction Control System and service ABS messages in the DIC.
First got 1214 and 1287 and the random active handling about 6 months ago. Cleaned up grounds and problem went away.
Now it's back, plus the 1242 code.
Dealer says I need to replace both EBCM and BPMV. For $4000.
Car has 113,250 miles. We drive about 13,500 per year, with at least one cross-country road trip.
I'd appreciate advice about how to be sure we need the repair, how to tell if we need both the EBCM and the BPMV, and how much sense it makes to invest a lot when we have this kind of mileage. What other big ticket problem might be coming up??? Is this the point where we start to think 2010???
Thanks for help!

Default My 2 cents worth

I have a 98 with 85K miles and it started having the Service ABS and TCS lights when I started my vett last year. I started investigating the ECBM and BPMV. I was having C1243 which indicates a stuck motor, your code is C1242 which indicates a high resistance in the motor circuit both conditions indicate a problem with the BPMV motor and that is expensive part. Through in the other codes and you add the ECBM and you are up to the high dealer cost.
I fixed my problem by changing my brake fluid and building an exerciser to run the motor. The motor does not run enough to keep the brushes to armature surface clean and that causes the resistance to build which can cause the two error codes. My theory!
If you want to try some things then I suggest changing your brake fluid and running your motor. There are several posts on how to do that and if you want to build an exerciser, send me a pm.

A C1214 is typically non negotiable, but fortunately (in most cases I've read) a low cost fix. I believe many have sent their units to ABSfixer, but lately, others have used other repair shops with success.
