Default Sylvania Ultra headlights

So I replaced both low beams and high beams with Sylvania Ultra bulbs and they do make a difference. Did not want to invest right now in HID's and it looked like the HIR bulbs were not experiencing very much longevity.

The question I have is I have just seen an older post about using the high beam bulb as the low beam as well (after modifying the bulb housing somewhat to fit) but does this really give you any benefit? Anyone who has done this can you give a opinion?

Also switched the fog lights to the 50 watt 885 bulbs. With the new headlight bulbs though it is hard to tell if there was a significant difference, though I know they are not driving lights and I was not expecting much. Guess I will have to wait for fog to really tell.

Several vendors sells HID bulbs/ballast that fit right in your existing housing for around $100. It was the best lighting solution for me. It was far brighter than my high beams. I went with 500K bulbs - and if I could do it again I would go with 430K. A little too blue, especially when driving when snowing.

I've got the high beam bulbs in as the low beams and I like them a lot. I first tried just the new Sylvania Ultra low beam bulbs, they were better but not enough so I modified a pair of high beams and they work much better. I was also very careful to align them just a tad lower than stock and I've had no problems with people flashing their lights at me because mine are too bright. I also installed PIAA 50w lights in for the fog lights, they help a lot too! If there is some light I just use the fogs and don't really need the headlights. I've had them installed about 3 years...

Well, I tried a search but couldn't find the details. If you'll take a look at a low beam and high beam bulb you'll see some tabs on the side of the high beam bulb. Grind those off, I used a dremel tool. Then plug them in. Check your alignment with proper tire inflation, turn them down just a bit more and you're good to go... I don't even use my high beams any more, the low beams work better! Of course, I've got Ultra high beam bulbs in for the lows and stock high beam bulbs in so of course the low beams are better!
Have fun...
