Has there ever been a question that couldn't be answered? I am amazed there are so many people that know so much about these cars.
I remember on the one topic of what you do for a living there were not to many mechanic listed. I mean I change plugs, brakes, oil sending unit and the easy stuff. But how do you guys change headers, clutches, and things a mechanic would change? Just a curious person and admire the help I get from reading questions and answered. I would like to say have a merry christmas and a happy NY
A full set of the proper tools is a must. Using the wrong tool always makes it harder. But If you get a repair manual and some common sense you can work on at least GM products. The vette is just top of the line. Give it a try, working on your vette can be very rewarding.
I'll tackle anything mechanical, but the electronics not so much yet.
The shop manual that Santa is bringing this year should help with that, though.
So far, everything I've done to the Vette has been guided by this forum, and I haven't broken anything yet,
so these guys really do know the answers.
But I need diagrams for the electronics,so I can stare at them until they soak in...
I'm guessing here, but probably the majority of us have learned by doing. Yes, we've also learned from our errors and wrong turns.
I only know and post about things that I've personally worked on. When I do perform a repair or a modification I dissect it to learn everything about that system and try and take as many pics as I can to help out fellow members...

Sure. How fast is "fast"? How much power is "enough"? Which color is "best/prettiest"? Do BSM's look "good" or "bad"? Did I pay "too much" for may car?
These are but just a few that come to mind. There are many others.
You'll get an answer to every question. It may not be the answer to the question you asked, and it may be a wrong answer, but you'll get an answer from somebody.
FRANKB You have discovered the magic of the forum,I am a retired mechanic, over 40 years experience, have experience in all areas, yet I continue to learn new things on the forum most from non mechanics, there are many bright talented people on the forum who although are not professional mechanics can and do a good a job as any seasoned mechanic. With the forum you have access to thousands of minds ,a cornucopia of knowledge, most questions can be answered .One word of advice when asking a question give as much background, information as you possibly can including your level of experience don't be vague ,some of our brighter members lose patience with vagueness or ommissions as they feel you are wasting their time(which you are) and you will be subject to scarsam or worse be ignored. And lastly every answer given here is not God given ,written in stone absolute truth,YOU must analyze and decide which applys to you... THE FORUM IS YOUR FRIEND!

And also by reading these forums in concert with the shop manual. As stated in a later post in this thread there is no guaranteed correct answer. Not even from the shop manual. You have to judge for your self what will be best for your specific situation. If you can't do that then it may be best to turn it over to a professional. JMHO.
No way!!!! That's like asking for directions or something!!!!!

Two years ago I asked why, when I put my right turn signal on, it disengages my cruise control. There is nothing in the archives, I never got a reply and have not been able to figure it out by myself, so I just live with it. I didn`t think it was worth tearing the steering column apart since I didn`t know what I was looking for. Anyone have any ideas this time around? I don`t mean to hijack this thread, but you asked. 2000 FRC

The common component to both systems is the headlamp multifunction switch and the BCM. I would be replacing the multifunction switch.

I had a similar problem on another vehicle and it was due to a wrong bulb in the tail lights. It causes the cruise to think the brakes have depressed. Check the bulbs to see if they are the correct type. The right turn signal bulb is sending voltage to the brake circuit.
