Default TPS install question

I'm having rebuilt TPS's installed in my aftermarket chromed C6 style (C5 dimensions) rims along with the slightly used tires I recently purchased here. Is there anything that has to be done with the TPS's prior to the install on the wheels as far as any type of programming goes?

Once they are installed:

1. Turn the ignition to ON.
2. Press the RESET button in order to clear any IPC display warning messages.
3. Press and release the OPTIONS button on the DIC to scroll through the display options until the IPC display is blank.
4. Press and hold the DIC RESET button for 3 seconds.
5. Press the OPTIONS button again until the TIRE TRAINING message appears.
6. Press the RESET button until the IPC LEARN L FRONT TIRE message appears in order to begin the programming sequence.
7. Install the J 41760 (Magnet) over the left front valve stem.
8. The horn will sound, indicating the left front TPM sensor is programmed.

Important

If the horn does not sound after 15 seconds, remove then reinstall the TPM sensor programming tool. This procedure may have to be attempted up to three times in some instances.
9. When the horn sounds, proceed to program the next TPM sensor in the following order as directed by the IPC messages:

* LEARN R FRONT TIRE
* LEARN R REAR TIRE
* LEARN L REAR TIRE

I don’t know if the TPMs can be programmed before installing them. Here are some links on how to program the TPM system. Hope this is what you were asking for.

I will do the progrmming after they are installed, no problem.
I was just wondering if anything needs to be done [U]before[U] they were installed.
Sorry if my original post was confusing.

Exactly right, always check them out before installation, could save time and money.

Default Fingers crossed

They are being installed now and I didn't check them out before hand so here's hoping for the best...
Thanks for all the answers.

Default TPS installed but...

Well the tires are on and they are nice (thanks LanceJoker!). TPS are all installed and the "Service TPS" is no longer on the DIC on startup.
I quickly tried to program before dinner and it never recognized the magnet. I'm using the magnet on the bottom of one of those metal dishes that's used to hold nuts and bolts. Seems like it's a strong magnet when it's on the side of my toolbox. I removed and replaced the magnet a few times from the top and side of the valve stem but it never seemed to recognize it.
I'll have to give it another try tomorrow.

How long should it take for the magnet to be recognized?
If the 1st TPS (left front) isn't recognized, is there a way to move on to the next?
When I programmed the new FOB I recently bought the procedure stated 15 seconds but it took about 1 minute.
Just wondering if it might take a minute or two with the magnet.

I had the TPS monitors transferred from a stock set of rims to a new chrome set of rims and after installing the tires I tried to reprogram. I got as far as the rear right and it wouldn't register. I assume the battery is dead, so that's as far as I could get. I got the fronts done, but backs are not registered.

My advice is to check them before installing the tires. Just bring them close to the hub and try to program them before they go into the tires. You can always reprogram them after they are installed. Better to catch a bad TPM before, rather than after!

"Just bring them close to the hub and try to program them before they go into the tires."
-----------------------------------------------------
Not necessary, You can do it sitting in the driver's seat.

Default TPS fuctioning!

When I quickly tried to program the other night, nothing happnened and I was a little upset for not trying them before installing.
I tried it again today when I wasnt rushed and it was great to hear that horn beep on the first sensor after about 3-4 seconds! The other three were no problem either.
Thanks to "TheWildcat" for these restored sensors at a decent price!
Thanks everyone for your replies.

Well, just learned something!

Ok, here's my situation. I pulled the sensors from the old rims and had them put into new rims. I had the tires installed. When trying to reset the system, only the front set correctly. When I got to the right rear, it wouldn't sound. So, I only have the front pressures displayed. Will it work if I bypass the right rear and go directly to the left rear? Will I get 3 out of 4 displaying? I have the car away for the winter, so I can't get to it easily.

Yes that will work. But when the DIC says RR, it will be the LR. Also, if you tried to do it when it was cold, a little heat sometimes works! Were all 4 working before the change?

If you bypass the right rear and the left rear programs successfully the car will think it's the right rear. You will get three displaying.

Well, 3 out of 4 is better than just 2. They worked beforehand, but have been sitting for about a year or so.
