00' C5 automatic transmission acting up help please
Well today it really sucks for me becasue i think my c5 00' automatic transmission went out... i think???? I was driving on the freeway to work when all of sudden i push the gas pedal at 78mph it will rev up ..... I pulled over and shifted to P. Then Ill shifted to D again but my 1st and 2nd gear worked fine but once it hit 3rd and push the gas pedal the RPM s will go up and it will still moved but hit RPMS. Do u think its the transmission .... i guess im a lucky one.. more when holidays are around the corner.
Sounds like the torque convertor possibly. But it coud also be the bands and clutches for the third gear. No way to really tell until the trans is opened up and looked at.

Mine failed in a nearly identical way, lost 3rd and 4th gear, while cruising along.... just last April, a week after the 6yr extended warranty expired, took it to the stealership, where they had checked it a few months before and found no issues, GM covered it under "policy"... nearly $4000.00!! If they wouldn't have covered it, I'd have gotten one from RPM...
The 3-4 clutch pack is always the 1st to go out--- it's the weakest link in an A4--Best is to get it rebulit before much longer--If you drive it too long this way you risk the chance of a hand-grenading tranny- and major broken parts---When getting it rebuilt there are a few things you can do to prevent it from hapening again and making it stronger--
As mentioned the 3-4 clutch pack is the culprit-- Have them installl a
"Z-PAK" clutch pack--this is a great mod and will help prevent another failure--then have them install the "BEAST" sun shell--this is a must for a Hi- perf. A4---And finally have it tuned---getting it tuned will really help in tranny failures---it will speed up the "shift times" making them more crisp--This helps reduce trans temps a lot--and reduces the clutches from slipping so much during a shift--GM tried to please everyone and softened them up--also helps with trans wear--
PS: a trans tune will lower your 1/4 ET's from .30-.50 without even working on the engine or adding any HP---
