Do you find that your AC is always on with the Climate control set to Auto, even when running the heat? I realize that AC actually removes moisture out of the air for defogging etc, I am just curious if I have and issue or if this is what it supposed to do.
Yes, I am on record in other threads condemning this system. There will be some who disagree, but I think this is the most god awful system ever. I have had about 10 other cars with auto climate control that I have had no problem with. This one absolutely sucks. I hope GM reads these posts and realizing that there must be a problem, because there is a post on this subject about every three months.
You can make it do what you want, but it is a real pain to get there, even after you figure it out. There just are not enough bad things I can say about this system.

I copied this from an earlier series of posts I started when I had the same question. Lil Red's solution works. If you search the archives for this subject, you will find a number of posts on this.

Okay, I guess i'll give this a shot. Try this, it works great for me.
First, press the mode button until the indicator shows both the floor and dash vents flowing air(commonly known as bi-level).
Second, set the temperature to your desired heater temp(70-75) or whatever you prefer.
Third, set the fan control to your desired blower fan setting.
Last, press and hold the appropriate memory button so that it will learn these settings.
Now when you get in your car and start it simply press the memory button which will set your seart position as well as turn your heater on WITHOUT the AC compressor coming on.
I hope this help you guys.

I have to agree with jschindler. I would have prefered the manual system. My problem is I can't seem to use the system in a "manual mode". I set the MODE to the VENT position then attempt to add just a little heat. As soon as I come off of 60 degrees the damm thing blows HOT air when all I want is maybe 68 or whatever. Am I incorrectly using the system? Could the system be programed that way? I've read the manual and it doesn't help.

The only other thing I'll add is that you can use any of the "modes" (not just floor and vent) which do not display the defrost/windshield and you can overide the a/c.
Okay, for all of you guys who think you have it figured out, let me explain what mine did this morning. Clear skys, ambient temp 30 degrees. I set to auto, and then pressed the A/C button and the light on it when out. Everything was fine for about 15 minutes. Then I noticed some cold air on my face. Odd, I thought. I figured it was about to cycle back some heat, so I didn't do anything for a minute. Well, still cold in my face. I looked down and the system had decided I needed the defroster on with my heat, which, of course, turned the compressor on. Let me assure you, the conditions did not call for a compressor and defrost cycle. Thanks GM! THIS SYSTEM SUCKS!!!
