I have posted this question a few times and took everyones answers and tried each. I have a high pitched whine/humming coming from my car only when i hit the acceleractor i think i have narrowed it down to the transmission, or right under the shifter someplace not the rear end as expected. The whine only occurs when I hit the gas pedal and is higher pitched in 4th 5th and 6th gear. With this new info does anyone have any idea what it could be? Throwout bearing possibly?I changed rear end gear oil, that was not the problem. Transmission was flushed a month or so ago. the car only makes this noise driving and not in neutral if you rev it any guidance is appreciated.
The noise that you are hearing is typically in the differential. When you accelerate it loads the bearing and when you let off the gas pedal it un-loads the pressure, thus the noise goes away.
Changing the fluid will not cure the problem.

I can't answer this as per the transaxle but many years ago I had a 56 Ford that did this. The cause was the pinion nut has backed off. However it would whine when you let up on the gas and stop when you got back on the gas.
Sounds like your pinion is moving in or out. One of the differential rebuilding sponser should be able to confirm this.
agree'd its in the diff...my origional diff did this...when i purchased my RPM diff they said my pinion nut was loose...the only one they'd ever seen be loose...you never know yours could have done that too
