Default Changing the stock head unit, how bad is it?

I know I have to purchase the Bose adapter, cause I don't plan on changing my speakers just the CD player.

From what I've seen it looks like they released another version of the adapter it was GMVRC1 now "GMVRC2"..

Please tell me what to expect as I'm looking at a new Alpine 09 model..

Thank you.

Are you doing this your self or having some professional audio installer?
I had my changed a couple of weeks ago, and I had GMCRV2 it works great. I had a little problem to add the bass up on the radio, it had to do something with some freaking wire. But everything turned out great though. I had installed a Kenwood KVT 614.

Default I would like it profesionaly done..

I never installed one before and keep reading about bass issues after installation so I feel as though I should maybe have it done..

Could you tell me about how much time it takes? I read on the forum for and 08 vette it took 12 hours and 2 days to do..Maybe cause of the navigation unit..seems real long and tedious..

Default What's the deal with the wiring?

I read that you need to solder certain bare wires matching up with the stock ones (Sounds a bit intimidating) even with the new adapter from Soundgate.

I went on Crutchfield and they have what looks like their own adapter to allow use of after market head units. They recommend purchasing it with my HU..I wish they had a plug and play model..

You probably won't be happy with the bass after you do this, I know I wasn't and ditched the bose and added some subs where they belong, in the back.

i got much better audio quality and bass after i switched to an aftermarket head unit for my bose system. i think its a great system. it just needs a little more bass. ill be installing two 8 inch subs.

if you have a basic understanding of electricity fundamentals and reading wire diagrams, it should be a piece of cake putting in a new head unit. good luck!
