I have a 2004 c5 manual tranny that all of the sudden got the pull key service steering collumn lock message. i try to drive it but just shuts off. I started researching and read about all the nightmares people have gone through. Found out clb is the way to go so I ordered one $50 from C.O.H. When i went to install clb, low and behold it already had one, so I figured maybe it went bad and I went ahead and installed new one, did the whole shebang and pulled the 25 and 29 fuse but still have message, i went ahead and researched more and found forum talking about door post grounds, so i did the door post ground bit and even ran a ground wire from the passenger door ground to neg side of battery. STILL WONT WORK!!! im frustrated!!!! I went back to the drawing board and reasearched some more and found out about the relay under the BCM, so i pulled the BCM and found no relay underneath it. So, i went back to the drawing board, reaserched some more and found i need to clear codes, did that and still have the dreaded message straight from the deepest pits of hell!!!!>>>.. im at a loss.... I dont know what else to do, everything ive read ive done, can anyone please, for the love of God help me??????!!!!!!!!
Did you try to reconnect the column lock actuator in the stock configuration?
If the actuator still works, this may at least tell you if there is still a problem with the CLB relay. I am assuming that you had an aftermarket CLB already installed and not the GM Harness K relay? correct?
Has your lockplate been removed so the column cannot lock if you reconnect the actuator?
Thank you so much for responding, i checked and the clb is connected to a female connector with 4 wires attached to it. So i would asume that its done correctly. Would you have any other suggestions??
Run a vehicle history report at a GM dealer using your vin....sounds like you have GM CL recall #2 or higher done to the car. Not the end of the world; theres a few options you have to work around it.
what are my few options as a work around? i just bought my car this year in march and it hasnt run in a month, wife is starting to question my decision to sell my pick up and buy my dream car. can you help me figure this out please?
Don't give up . . . check your codes. I had the same thing happen and it did it when my wife was rolling down the window . . . a little too much power consumption while I was cranking too with a low battery. My codes pointed to the window and also to the battery. My battery was 4 years old and only a weekend driver. I replaced the battery over a year ago and zero problems. Man, you are right, when the flipping steering column locked, it will not go anywhere . . . dang good sytem for theft deterrance, but crappy if you are the one that it locks on. Anyway when it happened, I let mine set, did a reset on the code, then reset the alarm, and I cranked up fine with no problems . . . replaced the battery the very next day. Keep your vette. Also, may want to check your ground points, they too, can cause some wierd stuff to happen. Hope this helps.

one is to send your PCM to a reputable tuner where they can change the fuel cutoff mph to 255 mph. (default is 2mph) that will fix the car shut off issue. englandgreen inc is in Houston
thank you so much for responding, i looked on drivers side again to see what the clb is connected to, the female connector has 4 wires a black, green, white, and purple wires to it, now im asuming since my vin didnt have a recall on it that i still have the k harness, i went to the link you sent in reference to the kharness but it didnt have any pictures of where it is and where to find and what it looks like. i guess this harness needs to be removed, forgive my stupidity, this is my first vette.

I think any tuner can perform that mod with the unit installed, thats how I had mine done
i want to thank everyone who took the time to respond to my thread. i finally got my car back on the road. after trying everything that i could possibly do from what i learned in the forums, i took the advise of Ikester and sent my pcm to englandgreen tuner in houston, by they way Stephen at englandgreen is a super nice helpful guy. removing the pc m was easy, i googled it and did it myself, stephen recieved my pcm and did what he had to do to it the same day and shipped it the same day. wow! what service! he took care of it with out messing with my tune. i recieved it and placed it and low and behold it runs without shutting off at 2mph. unfortunately i still had the pull key wait message, but at least i could use my dream car. after 2 days of driving i noticed that on 1 start i boged out and then imediately restarted the car and the pull key message disappeared, but this time i got the service steering column message wich can be cleared by hitting reset....PRAISE THE LORD!!!!! I WON!!! no more pull key wait and i can drive my car......thanks to everyone who was willing to take time and help!!!

yeah unfortunately thats the drawback of the workaround..the annoying "CL messages." upon startup.
