Quality Head Porting WITHOUT THE RAPE?
OK, I am looking for recommendations. I have a brand new set of LS6 243 heads that I would like stage I or stage II porting done. Who can you recommend that does excellent work at a reasonable price?
OK, I am looking for recommendations. I have a brand new set of LS6 243 heads that I would like stage I or stage II porting done. Who can you recommend that does excellent work at a reasonable price?
Who are they?
How do you know about them?
Have you had work done by them?
Do they flow test their work?
Do you have their flow test numbers?
Thanks in advance
We do our own port work.
Lots of flow testing/analysis is behind the work we do to get the time/track tested results that have been at the highest level of what you can get out of 243 castings.
We offer two stages of port work for the base LS1/6/2 bottom ends.
Baker Cylinder Heads Henderson NV. Best thier is ... worked for AFR for 20 years call AFR and ask for a valve job or flow work and they will tell you to call Steve Baker look him up on the web 800 5641510

I guess I should emphasize the "WITHOUT THE RAPE" part of the title. I know there are a lot of companies out there that will do great porting work for $1000 or more.
I am hoping to get some recomendations for companies / individuals that do awesome work without the $1000 price tag. I understand that there is R&D that does into these heads and that the CNC machines are not cheap (by any measure). However, how many $1000 jobs before that machine has paid for itself? I'm not saying that companies shouldn't make a fair profit - just that someone out there might be doing the same quality of work and not be trying to get rich from it.
I think someone above stated $600 for porting from texas speed. Thats probably gonna be in the ball park. You can probably find someone for a little less, but, texas speed has the reputation that most guys want. I know there are many others, you just gonna have to do some research.

$600 seems like a fair price if the quality of work is good. I intend to check them out. Any other suggestions are also welcome
you might want to contact Gromm down in your area. Years ago I had him mildly port some heads for me. He was very well respected. Old school head porter. However, considering how labor intensive it is to manual port I would bet a cnc port would cost less.
All ported heads are not equal, or even close. On a NA motor heads are the single most important factor to making power, and the last area I'd try and save money. It's cheaper to do it right once than go back because you know you left power on the table, a mistake I made with my last car.

I agree with that. That's why I want a reputable porter with a proven track record and flow numbers to back it up. Just because they do good work does not mean they charge top dollar. I am looking for good and reasonably priced - not "cheap".
I bought a set of stage 2 243's from Texas Speed (12/09) and they "look" like a very nice set. Engine is not back in car yet to test but the quality in appearence was there.
I always thought of sending to TEA stage 2 thier intake #'s are great but man exhaust flow to moon. But you have to consider they are installing valves and Dual valve spring as well thats another 300-400 right there, 600 should be for porting and not to mention u had to give ur heads as core so thats another 400-600 for used Ls6, iam ready for $1000 plus my heads for stage 2 (TEA), they are 300 miles from my home so its good.
