Default Antenna no longer deploys/retracts

Just wondering if the usual problem is the motor burning out ? I cannot hear any sounds at all from the entire mechanism.

You know, that's interesting. I assumed the radio and the antenna would be on the same circuit, and since the radio works, I never would have bothered checking the fuse.

Okay, I now have the motor working, or at least I can hear it run, but the mast is in the up position and will not move. Any suggestions ?

Default ANTENNAMASTSRUS for a new MAST

I had the mast fail to go up and down but heard the motor run when I turned the radio on and off in me vert. A replacement mast is less than $20 from ANTENNAMASTSRUS either on Fleabay or on the internet. They also have a guide on how to replace a mast when part of the plastic cable is broken off inside the housing. I called them up and they were very helpful over the phone also. I posted how to do this about 2 years ago. You remove the rightmost tail light to get to the motor. After removing some nuts and pulling the motor out of the left tail light you have to drill out 3 plastic rivits to get the broken piece of plastic out. Take your time and watch what you are doing. I drew a diagram before and during disassembly so I would get things back in the right order. I removed the broken piece of cable with the teeth in it and lubricated the housing and gears before I reassembled the case. You insert the new cable into the top of the housing after turning the radio on so that the motor goes to the fully extended position. Turn it off and it will retract. Mine works like new and the cost is much better than a new or even a used part. Good Luck

I wanna thank you too Hank. My ant only goes down about half way. I figured the tooth rod is broken off inside the motor. I've been told that I'd have to replace the whole unit at clost to 160 bucks. Thanks for sharing knowlege with us newbeees.

Thanks Hank. Feel like making a trip to Kent Island? Just kidding. My attenae goes up w/no problem but doesn't go all the way down when I turn the car off. It sticks up about 3 or 4 inches. I will print out your instructions and get to work on it soon.

PS - We never did go to lunch.....we will have to do that sometime this summer. Still working in New Carrollton?

I also heard maintenance of the antenna itself with mineral oil keeps it clean and retracts and extends much easier causing less strain on the motor....can anyone comment on that?
