I recently cleared all the codes in my system (all were H codes).after driving for about 150 miles I checked the system again and 3 codes showed up. All were once again H codes and were as follows:
U1096 H - LOSS OF COMM WITH INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER
U1064 H - LOSS OF COMM WITH BODY CONTROL MODULE
U1016 H - LOSS OF COMM WITH POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
Can anyone tell me what could be the possible cause for these and what problems will they cause? Thanks for the help.
Most likely a battery issue. Check the battery cables to make certain they are clean, bright and tight. How old is the battery? It may be giving you signals that it about to give up. Could also be the bare wire in the rubber accordian tube between the door and the body. Check out this link and see how to check for and repair that bare wire:
As far as what problems they will cause, a bad battery is pretty well self explanatory. If it is the bare wire, the symptoms will vary all over the lot from dash functions going crazy to the car going into limp home mode.
Thanks Chuck....I'll check it out as soon as I get home. The battery is only a few months old but you never know.
Condition/Concern:
DTCs U1016, U1064 and U1096 may be present when scrolling through the onboard diagnostics via the instrument cluster Driver Information Center (DIC).
Recommendation/Instructions:
This is a normal software function as long as the DTCs have a history status upon ignition cycling. No repair attempts should be made.

As a further explanation the modules on the serial data bus communicate with each other. They send out State of Health (SOH) messages to each other on a frequent basis. Sometimes the receiving module doesn't actually receive the message or its response to the message doesn't get back to the requesting module. When that happens you get the Ucodes. Sometimes it is nothing more than electrical noise on the bus that stops the message other times it could be the bus is too busy. If the message gets through the next time the system goes happily on its way. If the message continually fails to ge through you may see the No Comm message.
