Default Help installing cd changer

Currently I have a cd player on my factory deck.

Is it possible to install a factory 12 disc changer and still use the factory deck?
Is the wiring already there to install the unit in the trunk?
How much can I expect to pay for this unit plus all the hardware and wiring I may need?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

You sure can. I installed one in my Z06. It's pretty easy to do. You will have to buy an installation kit which will include the harness and brackets. Expect to pay about $470.00 for the changer and installation kit. You can order it from Bob at Fitchner Chevrolet. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=248938

You can get the CD Changer for a bunch less there, only $360 http://www.radiosandmore.com

It is a Delco GM unit and it plugs right in to the factory harness. It also comes with a harness for cars not equiped for a changer.

Will a cd changer and wiring harness from a 2000 camaro work on my 98 C5?

There are a few cd changers on ebay - but none of them seem to have the same model # - does anyone know what models will work for me.

also - a few of the changers on ebay say that a special installation kit is needed for corvettes - anyone know what this is?

Thanks

It should work. There should be no instlation kit needed. This is the one you want, brand new.

I would reccomend the install kit.
I bought on when I installed my changer.

it has the mounting bracket and wiring harness if you want a factory installation.

for $90.00 it's worth it.

You might want to investigate it more. When I had my 99TA it already had the wiring in place for the CD Changer from the factory. All I had to do was plug it in and it was done.

Also, as far as brackets, check your vette out for mounting locations. It might already have holes for a bracket to bolt to. The CD Changer I listed above comes with the harness AND brackets to bolt to anything you want.

you need the mounting bracket and harness.

I also notice that you have a '98, you will have the 4 wire plug next to the fuse panel in the passenger footwell, the 3 wire plug will have to be hard wired into harness.

I have done this install on my '98.

check the tech tip section for instructions on how to do this.

good luck!
