I have a paint shop, and we have seen several C5's with paint bubbles on the rear hatch, between the glass and the hatch edge. The bubbles are an area about the size of a bowling ball.
We have sanded the paint all the way down to the bare glass, and there is nothing there (such as defects, discoloration, oils, etc.) We then prime and paint, but the bubbles come back in 3 - 6 months. We have even consulted with our PPG Paint rep with no answers or solutions, and have even contacted GM, whoses solution is to replace the entire hatch panel.
I too have a 99 coupe with the crop circles, I was wandering if any one out there knows of a fix that works other than remove and replace?
Read the TSB, there is some kind of insulation causing the issue, maybe removing it will help (after a repaint of course). You might want to shoot some gelcoat in the area to try to block the problem.

Thanks for the reply, I did try the GM rep. but got no where. I guess I will try to hunt down a salvage hatch and have it painted and hope for no cricles.
