I tore my diff apart to upgrade the shafts, and want replace the half-shaft seals and cover o-rings while I'm at it. Removing the seal from the right-side cover is very straight forward because there's access to the back of the seal. I just used a bushing driver to pop it out from the back. My question is, how do you get the left-side seal out when there's no access due to the CV joint roller bearing? The manual states "remove the o-ring and oil seal from the cover". Thanks. The RH seal was in TIGHT...I don't want to butcher the cover by prying with screwdrivers and prybars. Is there another way?
don't know if there is a "grabbing" point on the side of the seal but I did remove the bearing from my motorcycle wheel by using the body shop metal puller-sliding weight on the long rod with a hook on one end.You hook it on the edge of the bearing and slide the weight until it hits the oposite end.Worked well for me....
I have never cause any other damage with it, you generally press against the other half of the seal with it as opposed to leveraging on the cover
This sounds like the way to go. The seal OD is coated in rubber and likely won't score the cover bore when its twisted out. By prying against the seal from the center, you dont have to touch the cover at all. You will destroy the seal, though.
