I am going drag racing friday and my bottle warmer wont be here until next week. Are there any safe alternatives to heating your nitrous bottle?
LOL, sounds like it will work. How long will the bottle hold the heat? I live like 25 minutes from the track but my parents live 5 mintues.:D My goal is to make at least one pass under ideal conditions. Thanks for all the tech support!
You might want to step it down to a 75 shot for 1 run. I would think since you have been seeing such low bottle pressures that if you ran a 75 shot you wouldn't be so rich and might geet better results. Just a thought
I'm not sure that you can heat a nitrous bottle in a bath tub. It takes alot of heat to get it to 1100 lbs. A sunny day in AZ is usually enough to get me over 1000. You may want to purchase a bottle blanket too..
If it's sunny out, set it outside. I lived in Las Vegas and set my bottle out for only 15 minutes and it blew off the safety plug. The bottle jumped about three feet in the air. So if it's somewhat sunny, that may work. Just keep a close eye on it. Have fun.
I have seen guys use a propane torch! :smash:  :yesnod:
I have seen this done by many racers to get their tank up to pressure before arriving at the line. It sounds scary, but it really isnt. Just dont hold it in one place for too long and keep moving it all over the bottle.. In a couple mins you should be able to have it up to 1000psi.
- ok you could sit on it, but it would take to long:lol:
- the sun idea works very well, just watch the psi (if is warm and sunny)
- i have also used those hand warmers (the little bags with bead
stuff in them) and just tape them all over the bottle
-keeping the bottle warm near your floor heater vent will also work
- also if you have a friend who has a bottle heater use his until its
time for you to go and race!!:yesnod: :yesnod:
**nothing will compare to having your bottle warmer though and you might just have to wait....
I do use a torch, but I put the fan tip on it to help reduce the possibility of scorching the bottles finish. As long as you keep the torch moving the entire time and watch your pressure you'll be fine. I heat mine to 1100 and then purge to 1050 at the line.
One other note, if you use the torch, when you get to 1100 and stop heating the bottle with the torch, THE BOTTLE IS STILL HOT AND PRESSURE WILL KEEP CLIMBING FOR A FEW MINUTES. Watch your gauge carefully when you take the torch off and purge off any excess pressure to keep it at 1100.
I just got off the phone with Tbyrne and they hooked me up. NX is going to drop ship the heater and panel 2nd day air so I can go drag racing friday! :smash: Our vendors are the best!
Congratulation on the nitrous self-install. See.....just as I told you so, it wasn't that hard :D
Oh, by the way, what kind of off-road did you use to replace your cats? Is it some kind of custom full length one that also replaces the factory H-pipe too?
Tuan,
Levi wants some pics also so I'll try and take some when I cut the front bushings. Basically the pipes are 2.5" - 24" long, welded on bung on one end, and the header side is flared out to 2.75" I use SS band clamps to hold them in place. Pics make this picture clear. :yesnod:

Where did you get the x-pipe and SS band clamps? And if you don't mind, may I ask how much?

I am running the TPIS Long tubes headers(Tbyrne Motorsports, Magna flow X pipe(The LAPD), Corsa Indy's(The LAPD. The headers are connected to the Magnaflow X pipe via a 2.5" pipe roughly 24" long with 2 & 3/4 collector transitions on one end. The other end is 2.5" with Oxygen sensor bungs welded on about 4-5" from the end. The Stainless steel band clamps can be found at summit racing parts, jegs or any other high performance auto parts dealer. http://www.ls1speed.com/Online%20Cat...0exhaust_3.htm

I used to play with NOS on one of my previous cars. DO NOT use any type of propane torch on the bottle. It will heat the bottle, but it WILL weaken the strength of the bottle. It will actually start from the inside out. If a bottle blows with 1000 psi it will be like a hand granade going off and you will die. At the track when I see people doing this I get the hell away from them. Have seen a picture of a car that had a bottle blow in his garage, it destyed his car and blew the door off the garage.
During cold weather I have put mine in the laundry tub and heated that way. This will work and the bottle will hold the heat in a heated car for quite awhile. I found that 800 to 900psi worked best.Never ran with more than 1000psi.
If you want to borrow my bottle heater, and NOS blanket let me know. I have mine were you hook it to a battery that I have and heat the bottle. Then all you do is take the battery out before you race. This way you due not have to leave it hooked up or worry about your car battery running down. It will drain your car battery if its not running. The battery is a jell packed one that you can turn upside down..
