This code 10-P0440H code has shown up twice in a week. I cleared it Saturday and it came back yesterday.
It is not listed. Is it close to this code?
P0441 EVAP System No Flow During Purge.
What is it and what can you tell me about fixing the situation.
My wife put in Quicky Mart gas last fill up,where I always run Shell V Power. She did use 93 octane though.
Forum member BYRONHUNTER posted this Jan 11th:
"DTC P0440 Description
The EVAP large leak test applies vacuum to the evaporative emission (EVAP) system and monitors vacuum decay. The control module monitors the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor signal to determine the vacuum decay rate. At an appropriate time, the control module turns the EVAP canister purge valve ON (open) and the EVAP vent valve ON (closed). This allows the engine to draw a vacuum on the EVAP system. At a calibrated time, or vacuum level, the control module turns the purge valve OFF (closed), sealing the system, and monitors the FTP sensor input in order to determine EVAP system vacuum. If the system is unable to achieve the calibrated vacuum level, or the vacuum level decreases too rapidly, DTC P0440 will set."
All that said, I don't know if it helps you.
tighten gas cap. Like I said my wife was the last one to put gas in it. Funny She has the same problem with her SUV. I just told her about it and I got the third degree"well maybe you should just be the one to keep gas in the cars and we would not have these problems" LOL
P0442 (small leak ) is usually the code for a gas cap that is leaking or not on properly---a p0440 is a general EVAP code that may indicate something more----could be a cracked or broken EVAP vacuum line-sometimes in rainy weather water can get into the system and it will throw codes---check all the routng of the EVAP lines and look for problems--- there may be some elect. solenoids that trigger the system to purge---check all your fuses and look for any that say EVAP or emmisions----
thanks I'll look a little harder if the CEL does not go out soon. I did not clear the codes this time, should I, or should I let the general driving procedures take place and see if it goes out by itself.

That fixed it for me! Shop didn’t put my gas cap back on right. Funny how they’ve changed my HB in a day without an issue, but can’t put the gas cap back on right in a yearly checkup.

Wait until they forget to put the oil cap on!!! This happened twice on a company truck I once drove. Both times after an oil change, both times by the same garage!!! First time I didn't notice it missing until about a month to 6 weeks after the change, when I checked the oil. Wonder how much junk found its way into the valve cover??? Second time, I checked for it as soon as we got the truck back from the oil change. Sure enough, no cap. Told the purchasing agent about it, and we went back to the garage together. The garage "just happened" to have another cap that fit our truck!! Imagine that!!! Company still uses the garage for its vehicles. Guess some people never learn, like GM still using Linimar.....
