Default 17" wheels all around

Hey guys I have a set of 17"x11 wheels that I use on my c4 track car. I am selling the c4 and wondering what I am gonna need to run the setup on my 03 C5. I am thinking I need tire pressure sensor in the wheels. How will it affect the active handling and traction control. Anyone have a spare set of sensors. I would like to hear about them.
Thanks Jamie

Well, I'll jump in...

To start, I'm no racer but I read a bunch of these posts, so I'll pass on what I know about the C5...might not take too long

I am assuming you want to run the same sizes to keep from having to bring two different tire sizes to the track?? Makes sense, I hear racing ain't cheap.

You need to have the back end of the car raked about .5 inch higher than the front if you dont want to effect the traction control. Normally that is done with the the larger wheel/tire combo in the rear. Of course that doesn't help you...

I'm guessing here, and someone will chime in to correct if needed, but it seems that you could lower the front end an appropriate amount to make up the difference and keep your TC happy.

Now, I can't tell you how that will handle after all is said and done but it might keep you from having the TC invade. I know there are posts in here somewhere that give guide to measure the distance from the underside to the ground in order to avoid the TC issue. You may also check for min clearance in the back with those 17s. I think 18s are the smallest back tire that came on C5s.

Good Luck!! Happy racing

The C4 GS 17x11 rear wheels work fine on a C5. No need to worry about how it affects your Active Handling or Traction Control. I ran that setup on my 03Z for a couple of years with no problems. The inside of the rims will rub on the lower control arm if you turn tight. If you balance the tires and have wheel weights on the inside of the rims then make sure you don't make any tight turns as the lower control arm will strip the weight off the wheel. If you have DRM brake ducts the tire will rub against the duct on tight turns. The LG G Stop big brake kit will fit behind these wheels without a spacer.

On my car I could leave the TC on and it wouldn't trigger when driving the car on the street with these rims. However, some people did have theirs trigger after driving some distance with it on. Just turn the TC off and there is no problem.

With the C5 you don't need the tire pressure sensors. When you start the car and the Service TPMS message comes up on the DIC just hit reset and you are ready to use the DIC to read the oil temp. Unlike the C6 it will not keep you from turning off the active handling and will not limit your speed.

No need to worry about the rake of the car either. I left my car at the stock ride height and drove it to speeds in the neighborhood of 160 mph without any problems.

Have fun.

Bill

So I can just bolt on my race wheels with no sensors? Just hit reset and good to go? That makes life easy

you do not need sensors with a C5. I run 17s on all 4 on the track without sensors without issue.

As Bill stated depending on tire setup you might have an issue with TC, but AH should be ok. When I ran 275 x 40F and 315 x 35R I had an issue. I eventually switched to 295 x 35F and 315 x 35R and there is no problem anymore.

I run 17x9.5 z06's with 275/40's with no sensors all around everyday. Just jump in start the car hit reset to clear the sensor message and go. The TC has only kicked on once on the highway, i hit the button to turn it off and switched it back on about 30 seconds later and all was good.
