I have these nice PIAA fog lights and today they stoped working :( I checked the mini fuses, and replaced the mini relay in the fuse box for the fogs at $17. Still no luck. They are wired to the factory fog button, and the orange light does come on, and the relay clicks, but no lights!!
There is an PIAA adapter under the fuse box that lets you wire three wires (I think power, ground and the switch) into the fatory harness for the fogs. I checked it and looked inside, and the fuse inside is not removable but looks ok?
I just got the car last week, and without the PIAA 1100 lights its like driving with no lights at all :( C5 head lights are sorry. If any one has this system or any ideas let me know.Came with the car.
Re: Ughh, fog light issues ...help!! (TexCorvette)
TexCorvette,
I am in the same "boat" as you except I have the 1100X fogs. My PIAA relay crapped out last week....see below. My car didn't originally have fogs but I purchased the factory switch and installed from there. Here is the schematic for the 2000, presumably nothing has changed: http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c5/pew...atic_small.jpg
My setup needs both the small relay you are referring to, shown in the schematic, as well as the larger one (rectangular black box, 3 wires on 1 end and 4 on the other???) that comes as part of the PIAA harness.
I'm not sure about your install but this could be the "adapter" you are referring to.
In any case, I called PIAA today and they are more than will to replace the relay for free but they are on backorder (arggghhhh). They even offered to send me a whole new harness but stated that I would have to do a re-install due to changes in the new harness. Looks like I will have to wait for the ones on back-order as I don't want to reinstall the wiring.
That rectangular black box that says PIAA on it is what I'm talking about, I wonder if I could just use a part from pepboys insread. On backorder, goodness?
Yup, its the PIAA supplied relay. I bypassed it, and the lights work. PIAA said they will send me a new one with an external fuse. Bad news, they told me to expect 3 weeks before it shows up. Did you paint your front brakes BTW?
Hey Pewter, did you have PIAA order you a relay also? There is no fee, but on back order. The new diesgn should be better, so if this happends again, I just go buy a fuse. Why didn't they think of that the first time.
