I bought a 2003 with 12000 miles in June 2009. After reading another thread, I checked the shocks and found packing blocks in all four shocks. They were white plastic blocks with a yellow pull tab. My question is: The car has apx 13,000. miles. Would these blocks have caused any damage to the shocks?
You should be okay. It's happened to several folks that visit the 50th, and they didn't seem to have any issues. I did a museum delivery on mine, and they tend to get things right. Makes you wonder if the original owner had them removed they might not have sold the car. Good luck on purchasing a GREAT looking car.
You would think they guy would had said something to his local dealer about a rough ride and then would have seen the yellow block upon lifting the car. He should have had one oil change per a year (6 total) and no one noticed? I wonder who did his oil changes. I guess that is why I always do my own maintainance on all of my vehicles.
Just looking under the car, you would not know they are there. The block is under the rubber boot that protects the shock. You have to jack the car up so the weight is off the wheel, and then pull the rubber protective boot up. That reveals the plastic block with a yellow pull tab on it.
