Looking to put a Heads/Cam package with new pushrods and lifters on my 70k 2002 LS1. Looking to keep sum total around $3,000 with the other basic's in mind (PCV,Oil'P,160 stat,Under'P...ect) ...Not to be mix with the 3gs,But i'm Also keeping my eye out for a Fast Intake&Throttle Body,injectors...Any input is welcome.
Something to this seems like a sure winner...TFS-K306-515-460
Input???
PS. I'm going to go along with a 402 build ...starting later this this summer. But This engine is going to be sold to my father for the price of my upgrades. (so the matching number engine stays in the family and everyone wins). So no "Just go 402 comments", cuz I already know...lol. And I already Have a Headers on back with a K&N cold Air.

AFR Heads - Cam - LS7 Lifters - Pushrods - UD Pulley - Head Gaskets - T-Stat - $3250
243 Heads - Cam - LS7 Lifters - Pushrods - UD Pulley - Head Gaskets - T-Stat - $2600
Should be close to this from any reputable source....

By the time you go with Trickflows or AFRs it will blow your budget by a few hundred dollars when you add in your oil pump and other needed items. It would be worth it though. Conversely, as RPM noted it will probably come out pretty close to right on with your budget to do some CNC LS6 heads. I added it up from us and we come out to right around his estimate both ways as well. Don't forget that doesn't count little things like the oil pump you mentioned and a timing chain, head bolts, and other little things you will need, they add up. If you are set on the budget, you will want to go with CNC LS6 heads, as those other items added to the shown estimate will bring you to right around your budget with shipping included.
I'm thinking about the same thing on my 99 FRC. Most likely going with 243 heads, just don't have the money for AFR or trickflow. My question is how much power can you get out of 243 heads, and are all these 243 LS6 heads the same from one year to another? What are some cam specs that you would recommend?

Although LS6 heads are 243s, all 243s aren't LS6 heads. They have the same port and combustion chamber design, but also have specific springs, and titanium lightweight valves. A well designed CNC'd and hand finished set of 243s would get you within 20-30 HP of a optimized set of TFS heads, and somewhat closer to AFRs. Since your fairly short-term plans are a new motor, I'd go the cheapest way, like Patriots, or Texas Speed heads.
